Malawi’s representatives in the ongoing CAF Women’s champions league COSAFA qualifiers Ascent Academy have been knocked out of the tournament following a three-two defeat to Gaborone United of Botswana.
The match was played at Mpira stadium in Blantyre In front of a capacity crowd which was left disappointed with the result.
Faith Chinzimu and Alepha Chimbeta were the scorers for ascent while Keitumetse Dithebe, Jessica Maponga and Laone Moloi netted for Gaberone who twice came from behind to clinch the victory.
The result means Ascent have finished bottom of group B with three points from three games, while Gaborone United have topped the group with five points. Gaborone and Young Buffaloes of Eswatini have qualified from the group.
They have joined Herentals Queens of Zimbabwe and University of Western Cape of South Africa in the semifinals which will be played on Thursday while the final will take place on Saturday.
