As telecommunications company Airtel Limited Malawi is completing its final year of collaboration with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) as the primary sponsor of the annual Airtel Top 8 tournament, there are no clear indications that the deal might be renewed.

Airtel Managing Director Charles Kamoto did not provide insights into the status of their partnership with FAM on Tuesday night during the Airtel Top 8 Awards ceremony in Blantyre.

However, FAM president Fleetwood Haiya hinted that there is a possibility that the partnership might continue, owing to ongoing discussions regarding the review of regulations governing the competition.

At the awards ceremony, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets emerged as the dominant force, with Lanjesi Nkhoma clinching the titles of Airtel Top 8 top goal scorer and player of the season.

Additionally, the team secured the championship trophy and prize money.

MAFCO FC claimed the runner-up position, receiving their commendations and prizes.

This is the 6th season as Airtel started sponsoring the competition in 2017 and the first three-year deal expired in 2019.

In 2020, there was no tournament due to disruptions by the COVID-19 pandemic and there was a renewal of the agreement on June 30, 2021.
