MCM emphasises ethical standards

As Malawi approaches the 2025 tripartite elections, the Media Council of Malawi (MCM) has emphasised the importance of media personnel adhering to ethical standards.

MCM Board Chairperson, Jolly Ntaba, conveyed the message during a strategic meeting with media practitioners in Lilongwe with a goal of strengthening media governance and preservation of press freedom in the country.

European Union Ambassador to Malawi, Rune Skinnebach, commended Malawi’s progress in promoting press freedom. He highlighted the critical role that a free press plays in fostering socio-economic development. However, Skinnebach also urged media houses to focus on authentic stories that reflect the struggles faced by people due to natural disasters and economic challenges.

Among the attendees were Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Baldwin Chiyamwaka; Misa Malawi Chairperson, Golden Matonga, Central Region Controller of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, Takondwa Jumbe; and directors from various media organisations.
