23-year-old man gets eight years for defilement

Mkukula First Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 23-year-old Chinsinsi Nyadani to eight years imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old girl.

Police Prosecutor Aufi Ali told the court that Nyandani committed the crime on 15 April 2023 at Chilundu Village in Dowa District where he allegedly stormed a house, found the minor and defiled her, a development confirmed by medical practitioners at Lumbadzi’s Chinkhuti Health Centre.

Nyandani pleaded not guilty prompting the State to parade three witnesses.

In mitigation, he asked for leniency since he is a bread-winner and a first-time offender.

However, First Grade Magistrate Thomson Midias ordered the convict to spend eight years in prison to deter would-be offenders.

Nyadani hails from Chilundu Village, Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa District.
