Two Malawians nominated as AU Commissioners

The Vice Chancellor of Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Professor Address Malata and former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor, Elias Ngalande, have been nominated as candidates for African Union (AU) Commissioners.

Professor Malata has been earmarked for the position of Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, while Ngalande has been nominated for Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry, and Minerals at the AU Commission.

The AU is a continental organisation that promotes economic, political, and social integration among its 55 member states.

The AU Commission, composed of a Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, eight Commissioners, and staff, serves as the secretariat of the AU and is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Union, headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
