Trans Africa Campaign gains momentum as Morocco joins historic visa-free push

An initiative to create a borderless Africa is gathering momentum, with most governments from west  to those in Southern Africa reportedly responding positively to the vision.

The Trans African Tourism & Unity Campaign, led by former Ghanaian Member of Parliament Ras Mubarak, is rallying support for visa-free travel across the continent to unlock its vast economic and cultural potential.

The campaign has seen a team embark on a 163-day road journey across 39 countries. Mubarak described the response from governments as “very encouraging.”

“Almost all the governments we’ve engaged with have fully endorsed the initiative we have started,” he said.  The momentum is already translating into concrete policy shifts.

“Benin in West Africa is visa-free. Kenya is visa-free for all Africans. Rwanda is visa-free for all Africans,” Mubarak noted. Ghana aims to abolish visas for all Africans by the end of 2026, while Angola and the Republic of Congo have pledged to implement visa-free policies within the next few years.

Mubarak emphasised the immense opportunities a unified Africa presents, from a massive consumer market to its stunning tourist attractions.

“If it’s mountains, a good environment, or breathtaking landscapes you want, the whole of Africa is beautiful,” he said, citing destinations from Morocco’s peaks to Malawi’s lakes.

We are one people no need for visas – Mubarak

He stressed the importance of policy continuity beyond changing governments, advocating for a unified, long-term vision.

“We are better together, really and truly,” Mubarak asserted. He believes a visa-free Africa will empower young people, boost intra-continental trade, and create millions of jobs.

“This would help a young IT professional in Malawi travel to Tanzania, or come to Uganda or Ghana to pursue opportunities. It would also help a young farmer explore the potential of expanding into West Africa,” he explained, framing the campaign as a crucial step towards a truly integrated and prosperous continent.

According to Mubarak the Trans African Tourism & Unity Campaign is more than a journey it is a bold step towards a connected, thriving Africa where borders no longer hold back opportunity.
