State President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has described celebrated Malawian female Footballer, Temwa Chawinga, as an inspiration to the nation.
This comes as she has been named the world’s top goal scorer in 2023, beating the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, just to mention a few.
In a brief statement, President Chakwera expresses admiration for the feat that Temwa has achieved.
“It brings joy and pride to the First Lady and I to learn that you have been recognized as the world’s leading goal scorer in soccer for 2023,” he said.
Chawinga scored 63 goals in all competitions – for Chinese Women’s Super League side Wuhan Jianghan University FC and Malawi’s Scorchers, to beat Ronaldo’s total by nine goals.
