Muslim charity alleviates hunger in Likoma

Local Islamic organisation, Mama Amina Foundation, has distributed food items worth K5 million to 150 Muslim households in Likoma to eliminate starvation.

Director for Mama Amina Foundation, Hassan Malick, said apart from distributing the food items, they have also identified five orphans and vulnerable children who will be staying at a newly constructed orphanage in Mangochi with the aim providing free education.

Sheikh Abudul Mbewe from Likoma Mosque appreciated the donation and described it as timely since many people are encountering challenges to access food for their families due to their financial status.

A beneficiary, Regina Mgada, echoed similar sentiments.

“The food items are vital to my family, I am more than thankful because I did not have anything to provide for my family and many of us here, we are depending on mangoes, may Allah bless these people so that they should continue to assist us,” Mgada said.
