Social media influencer Pemphero Mphande has launched an essay competition aimed at secondary school students, challenging them to summarize either the entire ‘Great Controversy’ book or any chapter of their choice.
Mphande, a 32-year-old member of the New Apostolic Faith Church, is utilising his social media platform to launch a vigorous public campaign advocating for the reading of this book, which was written by a Seventh-Day Adventist Author, Ellen Gould White.
The essay competition consists of two phases. In the first phase, participants are required to request a copy of the book by 1 April if they do not already possess one. The second phase involves writing an essay of 300-500 words, which must be submitted by 25 May 2024.
During a recent local television interview, Mphande, who also runs a community service charity, expressed how reading The Great Controversy Book had profoundly impacted his life. He now aims to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to experience the same life-changing experience.
In a display of commitment to promoting the reading culture and in particular of the Great Controversy, Mphande is distributing the book for free. Additionally, the President of the Malawi Union of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Tony Yolamu Nyirenda, has announced that the book is currently being circulated for free. He further said plans are underway to share the book to the global audience this year.
