MNCS suspends sporting activities to mourn Chilima

The Malawi National Council of Sports has suspended all sporting activities following the death of the country’s Vice President, Dr. Saulos Chilima, and eight other officials.

The suspension aligns with President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s declaration of a 21-day mourning period.

According to a statement signed by the Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Henry Kamata, the suspension allows the sporting community to join President Chakwera and the entire nation in mourning the loss of the Vice President and the eight distinguished officials.

The late Vice President was an avid golf and basketball player.

He also significantly contributed to sports administration, serving as the fundraising chairperson of the 2005 FAM Cup and the Chairperson of the FAM Competitions Committee in 2007, where he played a pivotal role in securing the sponsorship of the Standard Bank Cup.
