Matola inspects MAREP-9 Installation Sites

Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola has inspected Malawi Rural Electrification Project (MAREP) Phase 9 sites in Nkhotakota and Nkhatabay district in order to assess and appreciate the project’s progress following the recent flood disasters.

The project aims to connect over 2,000 households and businesses to electricity once the transformers are installed in the sites of Likuche, Ngala Fisheries, and Nkhuyu in Nkhotakota; Kangoyi Primary School, Kangoyi Village, and Kangoyi Trading Centre in Nkhata Bay.

About 416 sites in 27 districts are expected to be electrified once the installation of 200KV transformers is done. Site prioritization is based on energy demand, as outlined in the MAREP Masterplan.
