Lilongwe residents urged to celebrate festive season responsibly

Lilongwe City Council has appealed to residents to celebrate the festive season responsibly, warning that excessive alcohol consumption often contributes to a rise in road accidents.

The call was made during the city’s Christmas lights switch-on ceremony, where Patrick Jana, representing the Mayor of Lilongwe, urged people to enjoy the festivities peacefully and in moderation.

Mr Jana also encouraged residents to extend goodwill to the less privileged through charitable acts, saying the festive season should be a time of sharing and inclusion for all.

Meanwhile, the Lilongwe City Council has assured residents of enhanced security throughout the festive period.

Speaking on behalf of the Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Director of Engineering Services and Public Works Julius Tsogolani said measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and protection of people across the city.
