Roads Fund Administration (RFA) says it has mobilised about K16.5 billion from toll fees collected at Kalinyeke and Chiingeni toll plazas over the past four years, with average monthly collections standing at K200 million.
RFA Chief Executive Officer, Stewart Malata, disclosed the figures after touring road maintenance projects financed through toll revenues, accompanied by officials from the Centre for Development and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) and the media.
Malata said the funds have been channelled towards road rehabilitation and maintenance, as well as the operation and management of tolling facilities at the two sites.
He noted that K16.2 billion of the total amount realised has already been spent on drainage improvements, pothole patching and sectional periodic maintenance along key sections of the M1 Road, including the Zalewa–Chiingeni and Lizulu–Chilobwe stretches.
Meanwhile, the RFA says it expects toll revenue to double from January 2026 following an upward adjustment of toll fees.
The Chiingeni and Kalinyeke toll gates became operational in November 2021 and January 2022, respectively.
