Chitipa Council approves K22 billion budget for 2025/2026

Chitipa District Council has approved a K22 billion budget for the 2025/2026 financial year.

This is an upward adjustment from last year’s financial plan of about K19 billion.

Chitipa District Council Finance and Audit Committee Chairperson, Councillor Saidi Lwanja, said the budget which is pegged at K22.974, 329, 479, represents an increase of 15 percent.

Lwanja, who is the councillor for Zambwe Ward, attributed the budget increase partly to the introduction of new projects in the 2025/2026 budget.

“The budget increase is as a result of the newly introduced projects, which include Regional Climate Resilient Project, Health Centre Rehabilitation project and the wage bill,” Lwanja said.

Chitipa District Civil Society Organisation Chairperson, Patrick Ziba, has described the 2025/2026 district budget as good as it has a development element.

“The budget is good, but there is a need for the district council to prioritise areas such as infrastructure development, health and education to help improve people’s lives,” Ziba said.
