Right Reverend Bishop Mchombo is the first-born son in a family of nine children from Malawian parents, of Juma Village, Traditional Authority Maganga in Salima.
He was born on the 21 August 1962 at Ronald Ross Hospital, Mufulira District in Zambia.
He attended both his primary and secondary school in Zambia around the 1970s.
He enrolled with the University of the Western Cape, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Theology.
Bishop Mchombo is currently studying Master’s Degree in Theology, as well as Masters Degree in Peace and Resolution.
He was ordained as a deacon on 14 June 1992, and ordained as a priest on 4 July 1993 by Bishop Benad Amos Malango at the Cathedral of St. Michael and All Angels, Kiwe in Zambia.
In 2003, he was elected the second Bishop of the Diocese of Eastern Zambia.
He was consorted and enthroned as Bishop on 8 June, 2003 by the Most Reverend Dr. Benard Amos Malango at St. Lukes Cathedral
On 29 February, 2024, Bishop Mchombo was elected as the third Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Upper Shire in Malawi, at an episcopal synod, an event which took place in Zambia.
