UK supports Malawi’s education sector with K90BN

Great Britain has re-committed its support towards the country’s education sector, this time with £39 million British pounds (approx. K90 billion).

British Minister for Development, Anneliese Dodds, who is in the country on a three-day visit, said this during a tour of Mseru Primary School in Lilongwe.

Dodds wanted to appreciate how the UK – Malawi partnership is working to deliver the National Mathematics Curriculum Reform Programme.

According to Dodds, the support aims to reach over 7 million children with basic Mathematics skills by the age of 10.

The programme is also expected to benefit 1,500 secondary school girls with scholarships and mentorships to continue their studies and develop materials for children with disabilities, among others.

Principal Secretary responsible for Basic and Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education, Racheal Chimbwete Phiri, has since commended the UK Government for the support.
