The 2024 TNM Super League will officially kick off this afternoon, with defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets taking on Dedza Dynamos at Dedza Stadium.
Bullets go into the game with confidence after their Charity Shield Cup victory over Silver Strikers in Lilongwe last week.
In addition, Bullets coach Calisto Pasuwa has made some signings, including their former striker Babatunde Adepoje who is on loan, as well as two other Zimbabweans.
Despite setbacks in their pre-season assignments, Dedza Dynamos coach Andrew Bunya remains unfazed and believes his team is ready for the challenge.
“We are prepared for the showdown. We managed to hold Wanderers in one of our friendlies, so I expect my players to do even better. You will see,” Bunya said.
Dynamos have also made a few signings of their own, the most notable being Nigerian striker Samson Olatubosun Tijani from Aztec Academy.
Football enthusiast Bright Lunda describes the opening match as a tricky one.
“Bullets have struggled for years to secure a victory at that stadium,” he said.
In Lilongwe, Silver Strikers will begin their season on home turf at Area 47, hosting Chitipa United.
Coach for the Central Bankers Peter Mponda stresses the importance of starting the season on a positive note, despite facing a difficult opponent.
Chitipa United has struggled lately if their form in the pre-season Super 5 Bonanza friendly tournament is anything to go by.
They have Mcnebert Kazuwa as their new coach, who is being assisted by Elvis Kafoteka and Gift Mkamanga.
On Sunday, Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre will be the centre of attraction as Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will kick off their campaign against Kamuzu Barracks.
Wanderers have signed several new players, including last season’s top goal scorer Clement Nyondo, Blessings Singini and Chimwemwe Nkhoma, among others.
Other matches scheduled for this afternoon include Moyale versus MAFCO and FOMO versus Bangwe All Stars.
On Sunday, Creck will face Mighty Tigers, Mzuzu City Hammers will take on Civil Service United and Baka City will go up against Karonga United.
