Storm damages property in Nsanje

A storm has destroyed properties on Tuesday afternoon in the area of Traditional Authority Mlolo in Nsanje District.

The District Disaster Risk Management Officer, Daniel Mandala, confirmed that roofs at M’bwazi and Namiyala primary schools have been blown off, and several houses were also damaged by the storm.

He added that electricity poles were brought down due to the heavy winds.

“We are currently conducting an assessment to establish the full extent of the damage,” said Mandala.

District Commissioner for Nsanje, Dominic Mwandira, expressed concern that damage to the two schools will disrupt the learning process.

However, Mwandira called on all stakeholders to come together and find solutions to minimise further disruption at the affected primary schools.

Nsanje is one of Malawi’s districts prone to natural disasters.
