Standard Bank launches Phuka SME Awards

Standard Bank Plc has launched the Phuka SME Awards, encouraging young entrepreneurs across Malawi to expand their businesses.

The awards, running annually from March to July, aim to recognise the vital role of small businesses in job creation and economic recovery.

Announcing the initiative in Lilongwe, Standard Bank’s Head of Business and Commercial Banking, Graham Chipande, emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship in addressing economic challenges.

“Entrepreneurship thrives on responding to challenges and solving complex economic and societal problems. Through these  awards, Standard Bank seeks to recognise and partner with MSMEs that are rising to the occasion with innovative solutions to Malawi’s economic challenges,” said Chipande.

The awards are being organised in partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (SMEDI).
