The recently commissioned multibillion Kwacha Nkhudzi Bay Water Project in Mangochi is reported to have already significantly transformed the social and economic status of communities in the lakeshore district.
This is according to a Member of Parliament for Monkey Bay Ralph Jooma.
The project which was officially commissioned by President Dr Lazarus Chakwera late last year is scheduled to benefit 92,000 households.
According to Jooma, the provision of safe, potable and clean water has among others greatly reduced cases of waterborne diseases within the communities.
He also disclosed that school enrollment has greatly improved as most schools are now connected with safe clean and potable water hence providing a good learning environment.
Meanwhile, Jooma is urging the Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) to extend its supply to areas across its main supply line.
Commenting on the issue, SRWB’s Public Relations Officer, Rita Makwangwala, disclosed that the utility provider is already working on expanding its supply to all areas targeted within the project’s scope.
