Medical Council of Malawi (MCM) has reiterated the need for medical practitioners in the country to follow professionalism and integrity in their practice as it helps build a good doctor-patient relationship.
MCM’s Director of Regulatory Enforcement, Richard Ndovie, told MBC that when patients have confidence in their doctors, it helps to reduce the stress that comes with the fear of being treated by unqualified and incompetent medical practitioners.
He added that medical professionals are obligated to respect the sanctity of human life by respecting patients’ rights.
Ndovie’s sentiments come barely days after MCM fined and suspended six medical doctors from various hospitals in the country.
The six were found guilty of cases ranging from conducting C-sections under the influence of alcohol, failing to implement the WHO surgical safety checklist, conducting unlicensed prescription of medicines and operating an illegal private clinic.
