Mchinji Police arrest eight students for vandalism

Police in Mchinji District have arrested eight students from Kamwanya Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in the district for damaging school property when they staged protests on the night of March 17, 2024.

Police report that on the material day, the students rioted after some of their colleagues had been expelled for misconduct.

The irate students mobilized themselves and damaged school structures, glasses and petrol-bombed the school library, all damaged property worth about K25 million.

Namizana Border Police were called and arrested the eight students, who are currently in custody at Mchinji Police Station while others bolted.

They will appear before court soon to answer the charges of arson and malicious damage.

Meanwhile, the law enforcers have launched a manhunt for the ones who escaped.
