Malawi has called for collaboration in the facilitation of the Central Corridor projects, as it is key to achieving economic growth among the member states.
Minister of Transport and Public Works Jacob Hara made the remarks during the 14th Ordinary Meeting of the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency’s (CCTTFA) Inter-State Council of Ministers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Hara, who has taken the chairmanship of the Inter-State Council of Ministers in the corridor from DRC, said the meeting is key to implementing various infrastructure development projects in enhancing regional integration.
He said Malawi is in the process of rehabilitating the M1 and M5 roads, which he said will help enhance the regional connectivity within the region.
Hara also hailed the United Republic of Tanzania for its continued support to Malawi in the utilisation of the port of Dar es Salaam.
Minister of Transport in Tanzania, Makame Mbarawa Mnyaa, said Tanzania will continue to implement various infrastructure developments as one way of facilitating trade among the Central Corridor member states.
He said the government of Tanzania is doing all it can to accommodate more goods at the port of Dar es Salaam for the benefit of all the member states.
The meeting brought together countries that rely on the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania due to their status of being landlocked, which include Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Malawi, where they have adopted various decisions and recommendations meant to enhance Regional Trade among the member states.
