Kyungu calls for responsible driving

Paramount Chief Kyungu for Karonga and Chitipa districts has urged car drivers in the country to be responsible when on the roads to avoid road carnage.

The Paramount Chief made the call in Karonga during the official opening of a two day defensive driving training organized by the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services.

“Let me thank the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services for bringing this training to car drivers in Karonga and Chitipa. I ask the drivers to be responsible when driving so that they take part in reducing road accidents in the two districts and the country at large,” he said.

Maurice Mavunde from the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services in the North was optimistic that the drivers that are attending the training will gain defensive driving skills.

Reports indicate that in 2022 at least 5,553 people were involved in road accidents where 1,668 died and in 2023, 4,977 were involved in road accidents and 1,001 of them lost their lives.
