The body of Raphael Kasambara who served as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General has been laid to rest at his home village, Chijere, in Nkhata Bay District.
The nation mourned a man who, in his lifetime, was a beacon of justice, integrity, and compassion.
Speaking during the burial ceremony, Minister of Defence, Harry Mkandawire, said government has lost a true son of the country who contributed significantly to various aspects of the country’s development.
Despite a heavy downpour, thousands gathered in Chijere Village, Nkhata Bay District, to pay their final respects to the former Attorney General and Justice Minister, who passed away on Friday, 7 June 2024 in Lilongwe.
In his eulogy, Mkandawire who represented President Dr Lazarus Chakwera at the funeral, described the late Kasambara as someone who contributed a lot in mentoring most of the law practitioners in the country.
He also said the death of Kasambara is a big loss to the country as he was one of the few Malawians who was championing the country’s democratic fundamentals.
While thanking government for the support rendered during the funeral, a family representative, Ben Chirwa, said the late Kasambara was a loving and caring member of their family.
In his tribute, son to the late Kasambara, Tazizwa, described his late father as passionate about helping others.
The late Kasambara has been buried with full military honours and is survived by a wife and three children.
