Kalima rescues Silver Strikers

Zebron Kalima rescued Silver Strikers from the jaws of first defeat of the season after a 1-1 draw against Moyale Barracks at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Silver now hold a seven-point lead with 45 points from 19 games.

Moyale have moved up to 6th place with 28 points from 20 games.

Emmanuel Allan of Moyale Barracks scored in the 23rd minute before Kalima equalised 7 minutes later, securing the Man of the Match award.

Silver’s Coach, Peter Mponda, said the game was ‘very frustrating’ while Moyale’s Coach, Pritchard Mwansa, said they had a good match despite squandering several chances.

At Dedza Stadium, Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos had a similar score line against Creck Sporting Club.

Creck’s Vincent Nyaungulu scored the opener on the 70th minute but Dedza’s Gift Magola levelled the game on the 75th minute and earned a Man of the Match award.

In his first game back after suspension, Creck’s MacDonald Mtetemera remained optimistic, promising to address the errors made.

Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos’ coach, Andrew Bunya, lamented missed opportunities in the first half. His controversial player, Promise Kamwendo, was introduced in the 56th minute but had little impact.

Dedza sits 11th with 24 points, while Creck is 4th with 30 points.

In the Northern Region, Mzuzu Hammers were defeated at home 1-0 against Karonga United, courtesy of Raphael Nkhoma who scored on the 38th minute.

The result has left the Hammers unchanged in third place with 31 points from 20 games, while their opponents moved up to 8th place with 26 points from 20 games.

Karonga’s coach, Oscar Kaunda, credited the hard-fought victory to effective second-half tactical substitutions. Hammers’ coach, Kondwa Ikwangwa, described the game as fair but admitted his team underestimated their opponents.

League action will continue on Sunday between FOMO and Mighty Tigers at Mulanje Park Stadium.
