HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS MOURN CHANIKA

Human Rights Activist Habiba Osman has described the death of Emmie Takomana Chanika, a veteran Human Rights activist, as a great loss to the nation.

Osman who is Executive Director of the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC), says Chanika will be missed for his unmoved human rights activism record.

Chanika died Friday at a hospital in Lilongwe. She played an active role during the 1992-93 drive for political pluralism in Malawi through her organisation Civil Liberties Committee (CILIC).

She was a trained registered nurse born on 26 May 1956.
