Boxer Hannock ‘Hardknocker’ Phiri is set to redeem himself in an 8-round non-title bout against Tanzanian boxer Samwel Mputi on 28 July at the Lsburg Leisure Centre in Lilongwe.
This bout marks Phiri’s first international match since his loss to Ahmad Ali in Germany this past May.
Mputi fights in the Super Light category and uses an Orthodox style similar to Phiri’s.
Phiri stressed that a victory is crucial for him to secure more international bouts and added that his preparations are well-advanced and that he will not underestimate Mputi, despite having already analysed his fighting style.
He said he will capitalise on the advantage of fighting on home soil.
The fight is sponsored by Youth Boxing Promotion, with one of the sponsors, Salim Chazama, highlighting that this bout will enhance Phiri’s record and serve as preparation for future matches, keeping him active.
Mputi is returning to Malawi after a non-title bout against Byson Gwayani that ended in a stalemate back in 2022.
