Government says it is ready to engage two mobile telecommunication companies, TNM and Airtel Malawi, on the welfare of mobile money agents.
Minister of Information and Digitilization, Moses Kumkuyu, who is also government spokesperson, gave the assurance after interacting with the group in Blantyre today.
The agents are also pushing for revision of commissions.
“We are currently receiving one percent on withdraws, which is way too little to sustain our businesses,” expressed John Mkuluzado, one of the agents from Chirimba Township.
There are about 70, 000 registered mobile money agents according to the Voice of Agent, Airtime, and Mobile Money Association Limited.
