The Ministry of Higher Education has extended the closing date for the Initial Primary Teacher Education (IPTE) 20 online applications from 12 August to 30 August 2025, following reports of challenges faced by some applicants.
This year’s recruitment marks the first time the government is receiving IPTE applications exclusively through an online platform, accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from anywhere with internet access.
However, the Ministry has acknowledged that some aspiring teachers, particularly in rural areas, have encountered difficulties with the process. Analysis of calls received by the support team revealed two main challenges: poor internet connectivity in certain areas and a lack of familiarity with the online application process.
To address these concerns, the Ministry has introduced a series of measures. In addition to extending the deadline, it has appointed teacher agents in four rural zones of each Education District to assist applicants. Contact details and locations of these agents will be circulated on social media.
The Ministry has also increased the number of helplines available to the public and will distribute guidance flyers through social media platforms to explain the application process and list available support lines.
Speaking during a press briefing, Minister of Higher Education, Jessie Kabwila, urged the media and the public to spread the message widely.
“We have listened to the concerns from the public. Some applicants have struggled with poor internet connectivity and unfamiliarity with the online system. To ensure no one is left behind, we have extended the closing date to 30 August, appointed teacher agents in rural zones, increased helplines, and will circulate guidance flyers on social media. This government is committed to capacity building for all teachers and no one must be left behind,” said Kabwila.
The Ministry has assured that the online application portal will remain the only channel for submitting applications, and called on all interested candidates to take advantage of the extended period.
