GMT, COMFWB assure women entrepreneurs of support

Graca Machel Trust (GMT) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs.

GMT Malawi Country Director Evelyn Kamanga says through Women Creating Wealth (WCW) programme, they want to empower 10,000 businesswomen who will be supported to create $1 billion and 200,000 jobs within five years.

GMT in partnership with Comesa Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB – Malawi Chapter) has since brought together women entrepreneurs, business coaches and representatives of financial institutions in Lilongwe for an Entrepreneur Expo under the theme ‘Fostering a collaborative environment that promotes entrepreneurship growth, access to markets and finance’.

Kamanga says they want to build women entrepreneurs’ confidence, skills and networks and WCW programme has already impacted 500 women entrepreneurs in Southern and East Africa.

COMFWB Malawi Chapter Chairperson, Selina Mwenelupembe, says the expo offers a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services through pitching and exhibition.

“The expo will also enable entrepreneurs to meet and collaborate with investors, mentors and industry leaders, opening doors to partnerships, funding and business growth opportunities they wouldn’t find elsewhere,” says Mwenelupembe.

Some entrepreneurs will also be given space to present their business ideas to a panel of judges to secure funding and mentorship.

The WCW programme is established across seven African countries, namely, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Senegal.
