FOMO stuns KB, Bullets move 5th

TNM Super League rookies and 13th placed side, FOMO, have defeated Kamuzu Barracks 1-0 at Mulanje Park Stadium in Mulanje courtesy of Prince Kajore’s 14th minute strike.

He scored after a failed volley by Chembezi Chihoma. This result means FOMO has accumulated 22 points from 21 games, while Kamuzu Barracks remain in 4th position with 34 points. Neither team has moved in the standings.

In the First-Half, FOMO launched with early attacks after a 21st minute attempt nearly doubled their lead, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

In the Second-Half, Kamuzu Barracks made key substitutions to shift tactics, but their offensive efforts were thwarted by FOMO’s solid defence.

A disallowed goal for FOMO in the 47th minute added to the drama.

On the 57th’ minute, FOMO swapped Henry Mwandira, because he was injured, for Duncan Kumimba.

Though Kamuzu Barracks pressed hard, FOMO maintained their lead until the final whistle.

FOMO’s Chimwemwe Nyoni was then awarded as the Man of the Match.

Despite the victory, FOMO’s Coach, Elvis Kafoteka described the result as ‘unfortunate’ because they only scored once from numerous chances they squandered.

On the other hand, Kamuzu Barracks’ coach, Charles Kamanga, acknowledged the defeat but criticised poor officiating.

He also blamed the ‘bumpy condition’ of Mulanje Park Stadium and his team’s inability to find the target.

However, Sports Analyst, James Sangala blamed Kamuzu Barracks for lacking creativity.

Log Table by the Super League of Malawi

At Karonga Stadium, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets secured a 1-0 victory against 16th-placed Baka City, who remain on 8 points, after Nelson Sikabona scored an own goal in the 42nd minute.

The win moves Bullets to fifth position with 33 points.

Overall, both teams struggled to create clear goal-scoring opportunities throughout the match.

Despite Bullets starting the game strongly, with Phodo testing the Baka City goalkeeper early on. However, Baka City responded with a header from Dickson Mwangonde that went wide.

The second half saw a flurry of substitutions from both teams in a bid to change the game’s dynamics, but neither side managed to gain a decisive edge until the last minute.

Baka’s Coach, Kondwani Mwalweni said the game was fairly squared but had no luck. He was quick to say that not all is lost despite them being bottom on the log table.

Bullets’ Coach, Calisto Pasuwa said the victory will booster the morale of the team after coming from a phase where they were dropping points.

TNM Super League action returns on Wednesday when Mighty Mukuru Wanderers takes on FOMO at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Bangwe All Stars will face league leaders Silver Strikers at Balaka Stadium and Mzuzu City Hammers will lock horns against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Mzuzu Stadium.
