Five men behind bars over ESCOM property vandalism

Police in Balaka have arrested five men after being caught vandalising ESCOM property worth over K7 million.

Balaka Police’s publicist, Gladson M’bumpha, identifies the men as Rodgers Mkwanda, 28, Stanford Chabwera, 30, Christopher Kababe, 24, Ephron Mtambalika, 30 and Binton Banda, 41.

M’bumpha says the men had been on the run for nearly a week after they committed the offence between 18 and 19 August at Govati Village and Phombeya Sub Station within Phalula in the district.

The suspects are currently awaiting court trials to answer charges of theft by servant, vandalism and receiving stolen property.
