Eleven car brands recalled over faulty airbags

About 11 motor vehicle brands of models between the years 2000 – 2015 have been recalled owing to faulty Takata airbags.

The affected brands include Mazda, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Ford just to mention a few.

According to the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC), the recall follows reports that vehicles with the said faulty airbags have been linked to 22 deaths and over 180 injuries globally.

A Safety Recall Notice by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), states that with time, the Takata airbag inflator may create excessive internal pressure causing it to rupture upon deployment.

Meanwhile, CFTC has issued caution alert to consumers and traders and has since appealed to motorist to verify if their vehicles are affected by the ongoing recalls.
