DPP LACKS INTRAPARTY DEMOCRACY – CHAMBO

Legislature for Mangochi North Benedicto Chambo has accused the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of lacking intraparty democracy.

Chambo is accusing Party National Organising Secretary, Chimwemwe Chipungu of removing him from the party’s social media platforms because of a social media post that went viral last weekend.

“I went to attend the launch of a football bonanza at the weekend and to my surprise, Honourable Chimwemwe Chipungu removed me from the WhatsApp Forum for all Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Members in Parliament.

“I don’t think this is right because they should have asked me first. I feel this demonstrates a lack of intraparty democracy in the party,” said Chambo.

Asked whether his alleged removal means a total exit from the party, Chambo maintained he is still a member of the DPP.

“I am still a member of the DPP and will be going to Parliament as such. Let them fire me for attending the function at the weekend but let me make it clear, the salary I get as a legislator is from the government led by President Dr Chakwera and not DPP,” added Chambo.

Reacting to the development, Chipungu accused Chambo of taking the issue to the media instead of following laid down procedures in the party.

“Why has he come to Malawi Broadcasting Corporation? He is in the party and knows where to take such issues. He should also mention which group I removed him,” said Chipungu preferring not to take any more questions and referring them to Shadreck Namalomba, DPP spokesperson.
