Dedza North West MP boosts village savings groups

Dedza North West Member of Parliament, Auzious Chidovu, has given 27 Village Savings and Credit Groups (VSLs) from Traditional Authority Chilikumwendo in Dedza business capital worth K13.5 million.

The funds were presented during ceremonies held at Magomero Primary School and Kabwazi Trading Centre.

Chidovu stressed the importance of empowering women and youth through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which allocates 10 per cent of its resources to such initiatives.

“I have decided to build their capacity to ensure they can reach out to many people. I expect the to use the funds prudently,” Chidovu said.

Traditional Authority Chilikumwendo commended the legislator for prioritising women and youth empowerment in the area.

“This is a welcome development as it will improve the living standards of my subjects,” he said.

District Community Development Officer for Dedza, Thanira Gondwe, praised the initiative, describing it as a model for others to follow.

“The Member of Parliament has set the ball rolling by empowering women and youth groups to achieve economic stability. This is the first time in Dedza that funds from the CDF are being directed towards supporting the constituency in this manner,” Gondwe noted.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Teleza Fountain, expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament for supporting the groups.

Dedza North West currently boasts 340 Village Savings and Credit Groups, which serve as a critical platform for economic empowerment and financial inclusion in the area.
