CHAKWERA MALAWI BOUND

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera have left New York City in the United States of America for Malawi, where he attended the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The first couple was seen off by Malawi’s Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Lieutenant General Clement Namangale and other officials from the Malawi Permanent Mission.

Dr Chakwera, while at the UNGA, addressed the assembly where, among others, called on development donors to cancel the debts of the Least Developed Countries to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

He also had bilateral and multilateral discussions and addressed United Nations sessions that have resulted in some partners making commitments to support Malawi in areas of agriculture, social cash transfer, and education, among others.

Dr Chakwera is expected to arrive at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on Monday 2 October 2023 in the morning.
