Chakwera calls for collective effort in the business sector

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has urged the business community to come up with innovative ways that can fuel the country’s economic growth.

Addressing captains of industry at the State Lodge in Mzuzu on Friday night, Dr Chakwera emphasized that a cordial relationship between the government and the business sector is crucial to finding lasting solutions to economic challenges which the country may experience at any time.

The Malawi leader added that his vision is to collaborate with various players to create a sustainable future for all.

Minister of Trade and Industry, Sosten Gwengwe, commended the President for his inclusive approach by engaging different stakeholders.

Gwengwe further highlighted the potential of the Mega Farms concept in creating more job opportunities for Malawians, citing the example of Tropha Estate which is exporting Macadamia nuts.

Malawi currently ranks 7th in the world and third in Africa as a major exporter of Macadamia nuts.

President of the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), Lekani Katandula, pledged to collaborate with the government to ensure that investments in Malawi are successful.

He also urged the business community to align their goals with the government’s agenda.
