Songwe Border United Coach, Elias Chirambo, says Karonga District and supporters of the ‘Ndenga Boys’ should expect the team to return to the elite league at the end of this season.
Chirambo said this on Saturday at Karonga Stadium when his team thrashed Ntaja United 3-0.
“It was a tough game and we managed to win, I am happy for that,” Chirambo said.
The result has seen Songwe Border United widen their lead at the top of the 2025/26 National Division League, as they now have 31 points from 13 games.
Shabani Thomas opened the scoring just three minutes after kick-off, following an assist from Dickson Mwangonde.
Songwe maintained possession, despite the game being fairly balanced throughout.
Mwangonde doubled the lead in the 43rd minute after an assist from Evance Mwenitete.
Nonetheless, Ntaja also had their chances.
In the second half, they started playing aggressively and in a fast-paced manner.
However, that was too little to save them as the home side scored the third goal in the 72nd minute through Happy Ng’ona Mthuzi, who was assisted by Emmanuel Munthali.
At the end of the match, Mwangonde was named Man of the Match.
Chirambo said he will continue drilling Mwangonde to be clinical because he squanders many chances.
Ntaja United Coach, Chimango Kayira, hailed his players for playing better in terms of possession.
“The scoreline is not the true reflection of the game. We just made individual errors that cost us the game,” Kayira said.
Ntaja now ranks 8th with 16 points from 13 games.
Elsewhere, Embangweni United defeated Changalume Barracks 2-1.
League action continues on Sunday as Extreme FC, who are second with 25 points, face Namitete Zitha, while Chilobwe United face Mighty Tigers in a division-phase Blantyre Derby.
