The National Initiative for Civic Education NICE Trust has secured a €3.5 million approximately K7 billion fund from the European Union EU through the Boma Lathu Project to strengthen democratic governance.
Speaking in Lilongwe during NICE National Training and Planning Workshop, the Board Chairperson for NICE, Lingalireni Mihowa, applauded the Government and EU for the fund which she said will help enhance awareness among people ahead of the forthcoming 2025 Tripartite Elections preparations.
“There are a lot of changes in the forthcoming elections, so we have a task in raising awareness on the changes to enhance voter participation,” said Mihowa.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture responsible for Unity, Elizabeth Gomani Chindebvu, called for inclusiveness as NICE will be developing a roadmap towards the preparedness of 2025 elections.
Boma Lathu Project which commenced in 2023 is expected to run until 2026.
