Access Ability Africa is expanding its Blind Classroom project, bringing inclusive learning to 12 more schools across Malawi. The initiative, approved by the Ministry of Education, aims to make education accessible to every learner, including those with visual impairments.
Co-founder Justin Saunders has pledged K100 million (US$50,000) to support the rollout of 140 Blind Classroom systems. This funding, together with K38 million (US$20,000) from Save the Children International, will fully cover Phase 1 of the pilot project. The organisation is now seeking additional support for Phase 2, which will extend the programme further.

According to a statement released by the organisation, the founders, Staff Nyoni and Saunders, recently completed the installation of 12 systems at Montfort Demonstration Primary School, described as home to Malawi’s leading resource centre for vision-impaired learners and a renowned teacher training facility. Their hands-on involvement emphasises the organisation’s commitment to empowering both teachers and students through inclusive technology.

The statement adds that each participating school will be monitored to assess the impact of the Blind Classroom systems on learning outcomes and student engagement.
Early feedback from teachers has already shown improved interaction and confidence among visually impaired learners.
The press release further notes that Phase 1 of the expansion is now underway, with the 12 new schools scheduled to begin using the Blind Classroom systems over the coming months.
