Lake Malawi plane crash rescue underway

A rescue operation for a plane that has crash landed into lake Malawi is currently underway in Nkhota-Kota.

Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu says the privately owned plane C10 registration number 7QPFU, flown by a Zimbabwean National Fungayi Muchakwari left Nkhota-Kota for Makhanga in Liwonde.

The plane had two passengers, a man and a woman, who are Dutch nationals.

The female passenger was rescued by fishers who were along the shores of the lake around a place called Benga.

The cause of the crash is not yet established.
