As a way of encouraging safe motherhood at Area 18 Health Centre maternity wing in Lilongwe, Zuwa Energy has donated solar electricy equipment.
According to Chief Clinical Officer at the centre, Kedson Masiyano, the hospital uses candles or phones to light the wing when ESCOM lights go off and this affects service delivery.
Marketing Manager for Zuwa Energy, Memory Banda, says this is a response to challenges pregnant mothers and other patients face when seeking services from the clinic at night.
Area 18 clinic serves a catchment population of 250,000 and delivers eight to 10 pregnant women daily.
