South African investor donates to Luromo CDSS in Karonga

A South African investor, Hannes Conradie, has donated 10 bags of cement for the completion of a teacher’s house at Luromo Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Karonga.

Conradie, who is the Director of the Chirwa Island Foundation and is constructing a holiday resort on Chirwa Island in Karonga, emphasised the importance of education for a country’s economic growth, which motivated his donation.

He also announced that, as part of their commitment to the community, five local residents will be appointed as board members of the Chirwa Foundation.

“If schools have a conducive learning and teaching infrastructure, children will receive quality education, which will benefit the communities and the entire country,” said Conradie.

In response, Group Village Head Mgoyera explained that the community initiated the construction of the school in 2017, but progress stalled due to lack of resources.

“Our learners are walking a distance of 17 kilometres to the nearest St Annes CDSS and a donation like this will help ensure that the school can finally open. We also hope you can extend this support to the health sector, as we are facing challenges there as well,” Mgoyera said.
