Seized lorry used for illegal immigration forfeited to Immigration Department

Mzuzu Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has ordered that a 20 tonne lorry that was used to transport 52 immigrants around Mkombezi in Rumphi District be forfeited to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services.

It belonged to Lilongwe-based Skylight Logistics.

The Department of Immigration applied for the confiscation of the vehicle as a strategy to deter potential offenders considering facilitation of illegal migration.

Irregular immigrants are helped to enter the country using uncharted routes and, various modes of transportation, such as motor vehicles and motorbikes, some of which belong to Malawians and are registered in Malawi, are used.
