Blue Eagles have this morning presented the 2024 FDH Bank Cup trophy to the Malawi Police Inspector General Merlyne Yolamu at the Police Headquarters’ officers mess in Lilongwe.
This comes after Blue Eagles, who are a Police-sponsored outfit, defeated FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 3-2 on post-match penalties after the game ended 0-0 in regulation time at the Bingu National Stadium in the Capital City on Sunday.
Yolamu has directed that the K35 million prize money be shared among the players and the technical panel.
She also hailed the crowned champions for their ‘David versus Goliath’ epic battle, describing them as ‘resilient’ – a development that promises greater things to come.
The Police chief also pledged continued support for the team and also thanked the players for remaining royal and committed to the team despite being relegated and playing in the second tier (Chipiku Premier Division).
At the trophy presentation, Central Region Football Association officials and top ranking Police officials were also present.
