The Parliamentary Committee on Media, Information and Communication says there is need for an urgent review of the Access To Information (ATI) Act to accommodate penalties for those who do not comply with the Act.
Chairperson of the Media Committee of Parliament , Susan Dossi, made the remarks when she presented a report on consultative meetings the committee had with stakeholders on ATI Act implementation.
According to Dossi, Parliament engaged Institutions like TEVETA, MERA,EGENCO and COSOMA to follow up on compliance of the ATI.
However, the committee was not pleased to see that some MDAs are not aware of the ATI Act.
Dossi has since asked the Treasury to allocate more funds to MDAs towards implementation of the ATI Act.
