Nsanje District Council budget hikes

Nsanje District Council budget has moved from K7 Billion in the 2024-2025 financial year to K12.5 billion in the 2025-2026 financial year.

The District’s Commissioner, Dominic Mwandira, announced this in Blantyre on Wednesday during Budget defending.

Mwandira justified the adjustments saying they would effectively help in the implementation of projects and provision of services and asked for collaboration between all stakeholders in the district in order for the budget to achieve its intended plans.

“Good working relationship between the council and Communities will also help to make this budget realistic,” he added.

Mwandira also promised people in the district that the council will implement the projects in the annual investments plan which are from the community.

Among others, the budget includes social cash transfer, Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Program, infrastructure developments and other activities and services.

Director of Finance at Nsanje District Council, Clifton Kabambe, complained that frequent blackouts in the district and the refusal of some traders to pay business license fees have greatly affected the 2024-2025 budget.

The budget-defending session is being facilitated by the National Local Government Finance Committee.
