The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services has brushed off rumours making rounds on social media that Malawi’s new passports are not being accepted at certain airports.
Wellington Chiponde, the National Public Relations Officer for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services, has labelled the rumours as maliciously false.
In a statement, Chiponde said all passports being issued adhere to the international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a United Nations agency responsible for regulating civil aviation standards worldwide.
Chiponde has warned that spreading such false rumours is a criminal offense and punishable by law.
