The number of Social Cash Transfer Programme beneficiaries in Mzimba District is set to rise from the current 13,800 to 21000.
Deputy Director Responsible for Social Cash Transfer in the Ministry of Gender, Community and Social Welfare, Lawrent Kansinjro, disclosed this on Tuesday in Mzimba during a consultative meeting with the district executive committee and chiefs.
“From the current 5,241 beneficiaries in Mzimba North, we will now have 8,237 while from the current 8,643 for Mzimba South, we expect to have 13,441,” he said.
Chief Social Welfare Officer in the Ministry Responsible for Social Cash Transfer, Anastasia Matewere, said this year, new beneficiaries are set to be enrolled into the programme.
He said 80 percent of the current beneficiaries will be dropped while 20 percent will be maintained.
Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande hailed the programme, saying many people have transformed their households because of the Social Cash Transfer Programme.
